You may have heard of a “frenectomy” or a “frenotomy”.  The frenum is a piece of tissue that connects the underside of the tongue to the bottom of the mouth or the upper lip to the gums, between the front teeth.  Sometimes a frenum is unusually thick or tight, causing difficulty breastfeeding for newborn infants or difficulty with speech in children.  The total procedure takes just a few minutes.
